B.C. Appoints New Provincial Court Judge

A new Provincial Court Judge, Leonard Marchand, has been appointed to the Provincial Court in Kamloops to, "ensure that the court is equipped to manage caseload pressures and access to justice", Attorney General and Minister of Justice Suzanne Anton announced on August 2, 2013. Marchand was appointed to replace a judge who was appointed to the Supreme Court of British Columbia.

Administrative Reform by Chief Judge

BCCA Welcomes New Justices

New Domestic Violence Dockets For Interior Cities

Effective July 3, 2013, the Chief Judge of the Provincial Court of British Columbia, the Honorable Thomas J. Crabtree, issued his first Practice Direction of 2013, creating new Domestic Violence dockets at the court registries in Kamloops, Kelowna and Penticton. The reason for the creation of such court dockets is to improve the case management of domestic violence matters in the Provincial Court.

Chief Justice Finch Retires

On June 6, 2013,  the bench and bar of B.C. honoured Chief Justice Lance Finch with a dinner as he retires from the Court of Appeal. The dinner was very well attended, with approximately 1,100 lawyers and various judges and Chief Justices from across Canada, including Chief Justice McLachlin of the Supreme Court of Canada and Justice Robert Bauman, the Chief Justice of the B.C. Supreme Court.
